Run Aidan, Run!

I am warning you now...this is a ton of pictures. I honestly feel it would lose the hilarous effect if I left one out however. This was during the pre-game "ceremony" at Allison's game today. I tried to get him to stay next to me while I took pictures. This is what he gets for refusing.

Notice his hand. He's telling them to "stop!"

"I'm outta here!"

"Mommy! They're gaining on me!"

"Whew. Made it."

Crazy Mommy Strikes Again

I have decided to start the process of switching Aidan's room and the guest room. The room Aidan is in now is rather small and will work just fine as the guest room. The room he is moving into is large, which is great, but it is strange. It was originally a game room. The previous owners decided to make it into a bedroom, and they did not do a very good job. You can see where the drywall meets on the outside of the room, there is an odd ridge along the upper left side inside the room where that drywall was added, the crown molding stops in mid-wall, and they decided to leave the hole in the wall that was meant as a "window" to look down on the entryway. They put a fish tank in this hole in the wall. Here is the picture from when they had the house listed.

They asked us if we wanted to keep the fish tank, and I promptly said no. It was old, nasty, and I could just imagine what my kids would do to those poor fish.

So, we have had a hole in the wall in our guest room. I hung curtains inside so that our guests could have some privacy.

I considered many different options on how to deal with this problem cheaply before moving Aidan. Ideally we would have the drywall guy come, do away with it, and fix the other issues. Since that's beyond our budget right now, I finally landed on this.

I had the mirror cut that was originally in the kids' bathroom and attached it behind the hole. Liquid nails is my new favorite product. I would like to put the little wood pieces on the mirror to imitate a cute french window eventually.

I then put in insulation behind the mirror because I have had some complaints of noise traveling into the room easily. Next I took a piece of plywood, sprayed texture on it, and nailed it on top of the insulation. After some caulking and painting, there is now an art niche inside the bedroom. The paint is actually still wet. I'm too impatient to let it dry before putting in frames.

I also bought some wood to make three bookshelves. Before I move Aidan it will become a bookshelf area with maybe a little desk or table below. For now though, I no longer have to worry about someone climbing, falling, and breaking their neck.

What is this stuff?

It finally rained! Nai Nai and Papa Jerry brought rain with them from North Carolina. We watched Allison do three or four cheers on Saturday before we packed up and headed home.

We really enjoyed having them here this past weekend. Here are a few highlights:

Allison and Nai Nai made pasta Friday night.

Papa Jerry played on the laptop with Aidan while they cooked.

(Notice Aidan is in his favorite attire.)

Then he decided to get in the middle of things.

On Monday, Papa Jerry went with us to gymnastics. Aidan has started in the preschool class. It is going to take a few times before he understands that he has to go in a rotation, listen to the coaches, and basically function in a group setting. They tell me to quit worrying about it though, so I will.

Allison has started with the all-girls class on full-size equipment. She tells me she likes everything about it except the fact that she no longer gets to play on the green mountain.

Birthday Breakfast

Yesterday was Daddy's 34th birthday. Since he lucked out and was invited to the Texans season opener by a vendor, we celebrated his birthday over breakfast. The kids and I made buttermilk pancakes and eggs. Can you handle the excitement? He was adamant that we not make a huge deal, and I think we more than obliged. He had a great time at the game watching the Texans demolish the Colts, so his birthday was definitely memorable.

Are You Ready for Some Football?

Today was the Broncos first game of the season. The weather was nice, the squad was in a good mood, and Miss Allison had such a great time!

Aidan watching the game from the cheer tent.

Some of the football action. These little guys are serious about their football.

She even won the first spirit stick of the season for her loud voice!

Relaxing

I guess after a long day at preschool someone needed to wind down. This was all his doing. He stripped down and decided to watch a little TV. Isn't this how you watch TV? Pose and all?
